James first started exploring the outdoors with friends and quickly realised that being able to navigate confidently opened up a true sense of freedom. There’s no feeling quite like having the ability to go further, explore new places, and not rely on others or technology to find the way during your next adventure.

James qualified as a Hill and Moorland Leader in 2022 and has since taught navigation and outdoor expedition skills to adults and young people in a variety of contexts, including school Duke of Edinburgh Award programmes, the Army Cadet Force and private tuition.

He holds a Tutor Award from the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) and has delivered Bronze and Silver NNAS courses across the UK.
